چکیده

Abstract In this paper we studied the diet in four allopatric populations of alpine salamanders Dinarides ( Salamandra atra prenjensis ). Food consumption was assessed by stomach flushing while food availability pitfall traps and netting. We aimed to: (i) assess realized dietary niche, (ii) investigate prey preferences, explore individual specialization, clustering nestedness. All have an equally wide span that is among largest reported for terrestrial salamanders. On other hand, amount ingested rather low compared to salamander species; quantity consumed did not differ but younger individuals fed more than adults. composition somewhat differed sex/age classes. all populations, bulk consisted beetles, spiders, snails millipedes; except such also preffered together with centipedes isopods. For most categories, direction electivity indices same across populations. none a nested pattern interindividual subdivision resources registered. However, indications specialization modularity were observed disclosing broad niche composed smaller niches cluster along axis. Overall, very similar structural characteristics there little evidence local differentiation probably due absence drivers change.

Molecular analysis of Salamander family: the new alpine salamander Salamandra atra aurorae

A portion of the mitochondrial DNA from the 3' terminal of gene 12S rRNA to the 5' extremity of 16S rRNA gene has been amplified by PCR from Salamandra atra aurorae genomic DNA in order to define the taxonomic position of S. atra aurorae within the Salamandra species. Analysis of the molecular data indicated that S. a. aurorae is quite different from S. salamandra, whereas S. a. aurorae and S. ...

A PIT tag based analysis of annual movement patterns of adult fire salamanders (Salamandra salamandra) in a Middle European habitat

We studied patterns of annual movement of individual adult fire salamanders (Salamandra salamandra) during the years 2001 and 2002 in Western Germany in a typical middle European habitat for this species. We tested whether salamanders inhabit small home ranges and move little during the activity period as predicted for a species that shows strong site fidelity to a limited area. Initially, 98 i...
